Mandy Savoie is a freelance travel, food and music writer in her hometown of Moncton, N.B. She’s written for Canadian Geographic,, and more. When she’s not travelling the world, she’s listening to bad 80s music, riding roller coasters and reminding everyone that Alice Cooper once said she seemed like “a nice person.”

Must-pack item: I always load my iPhone with music from or about the destination I’m visiting. Music can say a lot about the place that inspired it.

Favourite travel memory: Learning how to pour the perfect Guinness pint in Dublin, doing yoga with dolphins in Vegas, training with the RCMP in Regina. There are too many to pick just one!

Best travel advice: Immerse yourself in the sights, smells and sounds of a place by exploring it on foot. There’s nothing better than just wandering around a city or a neighbourhood and finding something completely unexpected.
