Alternative "Moon" Trips to Take

Honeymoons aren't the only kind of "moon" trips

Consider one of these trips to celebrate the relationships in your life.

A Yolomoon: Splurge big or embark on an epic adventure because YOLO—“you only live once.”

Prime Spot: Hawaii. Hawaii Start on the Big Island to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park at night, when you can gaze at the stars and dine at The Rim at the Volcano House Hotel with its perfect view of an active volcano. Then head to Maui to catch the sunrise overlooking the Haleakala Crater and explore the surrounding area's lush farms. Cap off the trip on Oahu at legendary Waikiki Beach in Honolulu and savour the local cuisine.

Or Try This: Experience the overwhelming grandeur of the Grand Canyon on a classic, north- to south-rim hiking tour.

A Babymoon: A romantic “just-the-two-of-us” trip for parents-to-be.

Prime Spot: Turks and Caicos. Sun-seeking Canadians love its beaches, which are among the very best in the Caribbean. Bed down at a fantastic resort along Grace Bay, ideal for swoon-inducing sunsets and feasting on locally farmed, sustainable conch. Sail away on a catamaran to explore one of the area’s many uninhabited islands, and snorkel through one of the beautiful coral reefs (try Island Vibes Tours for packages).

Or Try This: Consider an urban escape to Victoria, B.C. Explore the downtown shops and cafés and spend some time relaxing and unwinding in one of the city’s many luxe spas.

A Maximoon: An extended stay to really get to know a place.

Prime Spot: Glasgow. Aye, this is the place where culture, history and architecture converge. Spend the first week hitting the big attractions—Glasgow Cathedral, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and Glasgow Green. Then settle in, get to know a few friendly Glaswegians and take the time to experience the city’s outlying areas and eclectic neighbourhoods, like the West End.

Or Try This: Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way is a coastal touring route that spans the country’s entire west coast. Spend a leisurely month taking in the sites and exploring the picturesque towns along the way.

A Buddymoon: A trip for friends

Prime Spot: Ocho Rios. A fresh wave of new, amenity-stacked resorts make this destination feel hot, hot, hot. The Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, opened last July, has almost everything to amuse you and your friends, from the dance beats of the Noir nightclub to the FlowRider, which generates artificial waves for budding surfers.

Or Try This: It’s easy to find a good party in Cancun, and the chic, all-inclusive ME Cancun keeps things going with trendy bars, restaurants and clubs.
