The Dominican Republic’s Best Beaches

Four of our favourite hidden gems

If you’re looking for some true rest and relaxation, away from the crowded resort beaches, head to one of these lesser-known spots.

Playa Rincon

This beach is a definitely off the beaten path. It's only accessible from the small town of Las Galeras—about 30 minutes from the town of Samana—on the Samana Peninsula. But once you get there, it’s definitely worth the trip thanks to the white sand beaches, palm trees, lush mountains and miles of seclusion.

Punta Rucia

This is another hard-to-get-to spot, but the picture-perfect white sand and sparkling turquoise water will have you hooked. Just west of Puerto Plata, this spot has a large coral reef that's perfect for snorkeling, and lots of space to spread out and relax in peace.

Macao Beach

If you want to try your hand at surfing, this secluded beach in northern Punta Cana is a good place to give it a whirl (Macao Surf Shop offers lessons). Take a dip in the sparkling water, relax on the beautiful beach surrounded by palm trees or dine at one of the small local restaurants.

Playa Boca Chica

This spot isn’t as secluded as the others, but is removed from the hustle of nearby Santo Domingo. Popular with locals, you’ll find beautiful sand, surrounded by coral reef and local restaurants, beach bars and souvenir shops.
