Where To Brunch in London

From Venezuelan pancakes to modern British cuisine, London’s brunch scene is as varied as it is plentiful. Here are five places that can’t be missed in this European capital.

Duck & Waffle

Perched on the 40th floor of Heron Tower, a window seat at Duck & Waffle guarantees terrific views of the London skyline. The restaurant's Full Elvis waffles are piled high with peanut butter and jelly, banana brûlée and chantilly cream, but its signature dish (duck and waffle) is also a must-try. It’s open 24 hours, 7 days a week, so take advantage of any jetlag and catch the incredible sunrise.

Arepa & Co.

Once but a humble market stall, Venezuelan café Arepa & Co. now has a permanent home overlooking the Regent’s Canal in Haggerston. Order the arepa, a Venezuelan cornbread stuffed with a choice of fillings, including reina pepiada (shredded chicken and avocado) or perico (Venezuelan-style scrambled eggs). The coffee is excellent, and perfect for sipping while watching ducks and kayaks glide past the window.

The Wolseley

Nestled between The Ritz London and Fortnum & Mason in glamorous Piccadilly, The Wolseley is somewhat of an institution. Brunch, therefore, is an experience. It would be wrong not to order the eggs Benedict (the “small” portion is plenty) although more traditional British offerings are also highly recommended, like the kedgeree or grilled kipper with mustard butter.

Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings

Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings’ beautiful restaurant in Clerkenwell is a botanist’s dream: light, airy and filled to the brim with greenery. Start by ordering a drink from the brunch cocktail menu, which includes bottomless bellinis, before diving into a plateful of drop scones, served with clotted cream, berries and honey.

Holborn Grind

For something more casual, head to Holborn Grind in London’s West End. Conveniently located near Covent Garden, this spot is more than just a coffee bar—its breakfast menu includes savoury delights like ham, cheese and chilli jam toasties and smashed avocado with chilli on toast, plus a choice of toppings.
